Recently, during their Science period, our 5th graders performed simple experiments to determine the nutritive substances found in different food. The first experiment, known as the iodine test for starch, uses iodine to detect the presence of starch in a food. However, the second experiment was performed to detect the presence of lipids, which is done by rubbing the food on a paper leaving translucent spots.
