Vahan Tekeyan School – A Legacy of Education

Our History

Named after the “Prince of Armenian Poetry” and beloved patriot Vahan Tekeyan, the school originally began with kindergarten and elementary classes.

In 1951, with the approval of Me. Hratchya Setrakian, Vahan Tekeyan School was officially established in Beirut under the patronage of the Board of Trustees of the Tekeyan Cultural Association.

Its mission was to meet the educational needs of Armenians living in the Bourj Hammoud area.

As student enrollment steadily increased, the need for a larger space became urgent.

This led to the construction of the current three-story building, which was officially inaugurated on March 7, 1965.

This dream took shape in 1964, thanks to:

  • The moral and financial support of the Tekeyan Cultural Association Board of Trustees

  • A grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation

  • Contributions from the local Armenian community and the diaspora in the United States

  • A significant donation from benefactor Mr. Hagop Barsamian

In the 1991–1992 academic year, the school inaugurated its first intermediate-level class, thanks to the commitment of devoted individuals.

Since its founding, Vahan Tekeyan School has nurtured thousands of devoted Lebanese-Armenians, many of whom serve their communities in various fields around the world today.

The school’s academic, athletic, and cultural achievements are the result of

:

  • Visionary principals

  • Selfless board members

  • Hardworking teachers

  • Active Parents and Alumni committees

  • And the steady support of the Tekeyan Cultural Association Board of Trustees

Over the course of nearly 75 years, Vahan Tekeyan School has consistently produced outstanding graduates who have gone on to successful careers around the globe.
